NPR - Downing Street and Support the Troops

For those of you who still are befuddled by the Downing Street Memo and its implications, take a couple of minutes out of your day and listen to this NPR interview with Michael Smith. He is the journalist who broke the story.

Also here is a real troop story which is gut wrenching. It is in two parts and tells the story about how an Iraq war vet came home and then lost his home and now with the help of Operation Truth, is getting his life together.

The saddest part about the latter story is that it took a special interest group to take care of this guy. A group that was formed because of inadequacies in our troop policy. However, the people (republicans and conservatives) who are always telling us that liberals are anti-troop are the ones who have been running the show and making the inadequate policies which lead to things like this happening. So the narrative is really all wrong here. The republicans have been doing such a shitty job of taking care of the troops, that some of them wind up homeless, having to hock their wedding rings for cash, adopt a drug habit, or commit suicide.

So this whole business about being a Republican = supporting the troops is bullshit. A word to the magnetic bumper sticker toters. You are supporting a Chinese factory not the troops.
